Dining Menu:
Breakfast: pancakes, eggs, choice of breakfast meat, muffins, and bagels, fresh fruit, juices, coffee, tea.

Lunch: soup, sandwiches, coffee, tea or bullion, soft drinks.

Dinner: appetizers will be served, choice of one lobster, steak, pasta, baked potato, salad, fresh vegetable, dessert.

We will furnish mixers and ice for the bar, but you must supply your choice of spirits. There are stores in the area that supply beer, wine and liquor.

Maine Grouse and Woodcock Hunting

Upland bird hunting is done with the use of pointing or flushing dogs. All who have a bird dog are welcome and encouraged to bring them along, or hunt over ours. The covers in which I guide the hunts are in very secluded parts of central Maine. This allows me to show you many birds for your hunting pleasure. Hunting for grouse and woodcock is extremely fun and rewarding. My dogs are very well trained to point birds which will give you the best opportunity to have a successful hunt. I find that hunting with groups of two to four people work best and so I may have an additional guide if your group is larger than four.

My Maine Grouse and Woodcock Hunts consist of 3 days, either Monday-Wednesday or Thursday-Saturday. You will arrive the evening before our first day. This always gives the hunting group a chance to socialize and enjoy appetizers and then followed by full course meal. The hunting day begins with a hearty breakfast, after which you will be on your way to your first cover. After a good morning hunt which may consist of up to 3 to 4 covers, you will return to Sugarfoot Kennel for a well deserved break as well as lunch. Then back to the great woods of Maine for the afternoon shoot, generally ending when we limit out or around dusk, and back to Sugarfoot to get ready for another home cooked Maine meal.

Also, I have always given the option to Puddle Duck hunt at any time during the three day time frame. Sometimes, a group may want to head for the coast of Maine to enjoy a day of Sea duck hunting. I am flexible in scheduling to give you the opportunity to decide what you prefer to hunt each day. Hunting grouse and woodcock here in Maine is quite rewarding with a daily limit of 4 grouse and 3 woodcock. We only hunt upland birds the month of October, mostly due to the rifle deer hunt season that begins on or around the first of November. As for the hunting attire, I would suggest a nice pair of waterproof boots, rain gear and some warm clothes. The temperatures here in October can range from light snow on the ground, to upwards of 70 degrees F. As for shotguns, any 20, 12 or 28 gauge will do with a 6 or 7 1/2 shot.
